The goods on a golf swing trainer

by Richard Myers
A golf swing trainer is a device that helps you to consistently swing properly. There are many options available, from those that are designed to fix your slice to those that will help you get a longer, faster drive.

Don't be fooled by the manufacturers that say their trainer will solve any and all golf swing problems. Know your primary swing faults and focus on finding a golf swing trainer designed to fix them. All trainers have the same purpose: to improve your swing mechanics. The majority do this by using what is known as 'muscle memory.' The idea is that if you carry out a movement time after time, exactly the same way each time, your muscles become attuned to it. You will be able to execute that movement without having to consciously make your muscles follow the routine. One type of golf swing trainer you might be familiar with is the large, round devices often made of white piping.
These are called golf swing plane trainers. They specifically help you get a feel for the proper swing plane for your body size. These trainers have stood the test of time so you'll see them at a lot of driving ranges and courses that offer instruction. Some have exercise cords that strengthen your muscles while keeping your swing in the correct plane, and others keep your arms and legs in the correct posture. Some do both, but remember that you get what you pay for.

Before you invest in a golf swing trainer like this or something simpler, try it out. Most pro shops will allow you hit a few balls in a hitting bay to get a feel for the equipment and its effectiveness. Whether you are considering a big or small investment in equipment, have a golf pro look at your swing and suggest a golf swing trainer. Ask other golfers what they have tried. One thing to consider when determining whether a trainer is worth the money is its longevity. If you consistently see advertisements for it, it's probably an effective training aid and therefore a good buy. But, if you see people trying to unload their used trainer at steep discounts on the Internet or at yard sales, chances are pretty good that it was less than effective. Once you chosen a golf swing trainer, use it regularly. It will take some time to fix your swing faults, so give it a chance. Too many trainers are collecting dust because their owners got frustrated and gave up on it after just a few sessions.

Richard Myers provides the avid golfer with video instruction to improve his or her golf swing. By using his golf swing trainer you will be able to lower your golf score significantly.

Some Tips To Improve Your Golf Swing

by Edwin Shackleford
So, your golf swing needs improvement and you know it? Here are some tips in making better golf swings.
Tip no. 1. A great golf swing does not mean you have to swing with arms.
Behind your back, put your golf club while you turn your back to your target. It is like taking your club back as you hinge your arm at your shoulder. You could also practice the drill known as no arms.

Tip no. 2. You should not forget cocking wrists. Do not forget cocking your wrists. This might be difficult at first, but it will be natural to you with enough practice.
Tip no. 3. You should let the left arm clockwise slightly when you start the back swing. It is not really something that you actually should remember. It naturally happens if you would just allow it. This just means that you should not resist this movement that is just natural. You might not notice it, but you might have been resisting this movement because this causes the head of your golf club to go open slightly when you swing it. Just allow it to happen.
Tip no. 4. Plant your feet firmly on the ground. You might have copied this from baseball. That is, letting your foot heel in front to come above the ground when you swing your golf club back. Some people think that by doing this so, their back swing feels more huge.

It is something that seems lifting the front heel can easily make the body coil and for the tension to build that much harder. Letting the foot roll freely to the inside is fine. However, one should keep that foot on the ground to make golf back swing well-anchored.
Tip no. 5. From the bottom golf down swing.

Assuming that you accomplish all the drills correctly - from the golf stance, the golf grip you have, and your golf back swing. But you can still ruin everything if you begin the golf swing that you have with the shoulders. You might want to use a swing trigger to begin the golf down swing that you have with the lower part of your body. Tip no. 6. And again, on your golf down swing.
You should turn the belt buckle to your target.

Try turning your hips as powerful and fast as possible when you do your golf down swing, it works.

Why is the Core Important to Golf?

by Sean Cochran
Introduction

The core is the "center of the body" and is a key component for many activities the body performs. A quick review of the core region will indicate: 1) there are a vast number of muscles incorporated in this section of the body and 2) the core is an integral part of all human movement, including your swing!

Let us first review the first point in terms of what comprises the core. The core is an anatomical part of the body. The easiest way to think about the core is in terms of a "section" of the body. This section of the body is all the muscles from your hips up to the chest, not just the muscles on the front of your body, but on the sides, and backside as well. A generalization will state that the muscles comprising the core are: the abdominals, lower back, obliques, glutes, hip flexors, hip extensors, and spinal stabilizers. This is a short list of muscle groups of the core, and not all the specific muscles in this region.

This quick review of the anatomical structure of the core indicates that there are vast number of muscle groups and muscles incorporated in this section of the body. Keep in mind that even though we just described many individual muscle groups and muscles, the entire core region works as a unit to create movement.

We must realize that human movement is integrated and not isolated. First, let us describe human movement. Human movement is a general statement that describes anything you do with your body. The tasks can be simple movements like getting out of a chair, walking, or standing. Human movement can also be a complex movement like swinging a golf club.

We now know what human movement encompasses. We can begin to understand what we are talking about when we say "integrated." To perform either a simple task (standing up) or a complex task (swinging a golf club), the body functions as a "unit." If you swing a golf club, do you just use your arms? The answer is obviously no! The same can be said when getting up from a chair. Do you just use your legs? The answer is a little less obvious, but again the answer is no. In either of the movements describe above, your body must integrate numerous muscles to perform the movement. These muscles are utilized to balance and stabilize the body.

The same idea holds true for the core region of the body. Bending over to pick up the newspaper, you are not just using your lower back. Additionally, you are using the abdominal structure, deep spinal stabilizing muscles, and many others. So again, the core works as a "unit" to create human movement, as does the rest of the body.

The Core in Relation to the Golf Swing

At this point, we know that the core functions as a unit and is comprised of many muscles. The next question is: What exactly does the core do during human movement?

The core is involved in every movement of the body:
1) It is responsible for stabilizing the spine,
2) It assists in the function of balance, and
3) It is responsible in the transfer of energy from your lower body into the upper body (think of a golf swing on this one). In addition, the core is the primary rotator of the body.
This is probably giving you a pretty good idea of the relationship between the core and the golf swing. Keep all of these ideas about what the core is comprised of and what the functions of the core are as we move onto the next section.

The Core and the Golf Swing: the Connection

At this time create in your head the picture of a perfect golf swing. Start at address, go through the back swing, start the down swing, see the contact, and complete it with the follow through. Now, what do you see? Key in on what the body is doing during the different phases of the swing. The body is essentially creating a swing path through the process of weight transfer and rotation. These two components allow for the development and transfer of power (i.e. club head speed) into the golf club.

The core is important because golf is a rotational sport. The core is the region of the body that allows the body to rotate. The core is the area of the body that creates power during rotational activities. In addition to rotation, the core is the center point of balance for the body, and the core lends itself to the ability of weight transfer during the swing.

If golfers are to perform at their optimal levels, they must possess:
1) the ability to balance,
2) the ability to transfer weight efficiently, and
3) the ability to create rotational power. The core section of your body allows for these three components to occur. Improvement in your swing is contingent upon the development of this area of your body.

How Does the Core Development Improve your Game?

Core training allows for the development of the required power parameters and balance capacities for an efficient swing. Overall, the development of the core allows the golfer greater balance and the ability to develop more power in their swing. Combined with a mechanically sound swing, core development will increase distance off of the tee, accuracy, and consistency within your game.

Limited core strength, endurance, and power cause restrictions in balance capabilities, power outputs, and the ability to repeat a swing. This results in compensations with your swing resulting in less accuracy and distance on your shots. Additionally, the increased possibility of injury to your body occurs.

What Parameters of the Core Do I Develop for Improved Power and Balance

Golf is a sport that is classified as a functional athletic activity. A functional athletic activity is any sport requiring the entire body to be integrated in the performance of the activity.

What does that mean? Generally speaking, the golf swing utilizes the entire body from "feet to fingertips" to execute the swing. In order for a successful swing to occur, the body must maintain balance throughout the swing and create power to transfer into the golf club. The majority of golfers have limited balance and power capacities. This impedes their success on the course.

A golf-specific core program will focus on the areas of the body (hips, low back, abdominals, and obliques) that are required to develop the balance and power capacities required for the swing. Such a program will result in the development of the balance, stabilization, strength, and power capacities required for an efficient golf swing. Balance Your Checkbook And Golf Swing

by Sean Cochran
We all search for it. Balance in our daily lives. Balance while riding a bike. Politicians are always debating a balanced budget in Washington, and most of us could use a little balance in our checkbooks. Balance is a term used in golf quite often as well. It's a "buzzword" and almost a cliché when it comes to the golf swing. I am sure you have heard numerous times from swing coaches that "you have to stay balanced when swinging your club." Others phrases that I hear when we talk about golf and balance are the following: "When it comes to a sand shot, dig your feet into the stand so you can stay balanced," "If the ball is on an uphill lie and above your feet, make sure you swing through the ball, and stayed balanced," and "Stay balanced when hitting the driver and get to the finish position in perfect balance." The list could go on and on, and I am sure all of you could probably add to the short list above.

Two questions always arise in my mind when I hear the word balance in association with golf: 1) what does balance exactly mean, and 2) how do I create balance in my golf swing? I am guessing quite a few of you have these same questions, or similar ones, when you talk about the subject of balance in relation to the golf swing.

I am going to answer both of these questions. We will first define balance and its relation to the golf swing. Secondly, we will discuss how you develop the balance capacities of your body in relation to the golf swing. So without further ado let's get started.

What is Balance?

This is a really great question and the perfect way to begin. So let's hear it! What is the definition of balance? Think about it for a minute and then write down a couple of your answers. I understand that this is not the easiest question to answer (trust me, I have asked it plenty of times), and it is okay if you are not able to create a good working definition of balance (that's part of what we are going to do with this article). Okay, time is up, what did you write down?
Well, let me tell you some of the replies I have received for this question and we will take if from there. Here are just a few that I hear: "head over your belly button between your feet," "swinging a club on the correct path," "knowing where your body is in space," and "kinesthetic awareness." All of these answers are somewhat correct, but none of them gives us a good sound understanding of what balance really means.

The definition of balance is simply the ability to control your body during movement. Sounds pretty simple, does it not? It really is when you think about it, but let's break this definition down so we understand it completely. Starting with the first portion of the definition: "the ability to control" means what? Well, it is probably easiest to imagine what "out of control" looks like. Take the mental image of a racecar crashing into the wall. We could describe the car as out of control. Now take the flip side of this, and what would this car look like if it were in control? It would probably zoom around the track without hitting anything. The body is the same; if your body is out of control it will, in a sense, crash or fall over. If the body is in control, then it performs whatever movement you are asking of it without "crashing." Take the example of a toddler running. Sometimes they get going so quickly that they get out of control and fall over. Other times they stay in control and are able to run.

Moving onto the second part of the definition: "your body." Pretty easy concept to understand, don't you think? Your body includes your torso, head, arms, legs, and anything attached to the arms or legs, like a golf club. Up to this point we can put together the first two parts of the definition and summarize it as: the body (including your arms, legs, torso, head, and golf club) must be under control. Let us add the final part of the definition into the mix to complete our understanding.

The final piece of the definition is: "during movement." This simply means anything your body is doing. It can be walking, running, throwing a baseball, or, in our world, swinging a golf club. Swinging a golf club is "our movement" when discussing this definition. We are now at the point to put the whole definition together. Let us use the example of a golf swing to create the connection we are looking for in terms of the definition.

Balance is the ability of your body (i.e. nerves, muscles, and skeleton) to swing a golf club effectively and efficiently on the correct path without changing the position of your body in such a way that it is detrimental to the swing and its outcome (i.e. contact with the ball). Pretty simple definition when you break it down, and from now on when your swing coach says, "You have to stay balanced," you know what he is talking about.

Developing Balance in Our Golf Swing

Okay, we now know the definition of balance and its relationship to the golf swing. Now, for the second question of this article: "how do we develop balance in relationship to our golf swing?" This next section will answer this question for you. I would also bet that the answer is not as obvious as it appears.

I will first say that developing balance in your swing is a combination of a couple of factors. The first and probably most obvious factor is mechanics. The golf swing is a biomechanical movement that requires the body to take the club through a specified swing path in a certain sequence and timing. The body must learn the biomechanical movement of a golf swing to become efficient with the movement. As your body becomes aware of the movement, more efficient with the movement, and has a better "feel" for the movement, the concept of balance in your swing will improve. So the first part of developing balance in your swing is linked to the mechanics of the swing and becoming more efficient with these mechanics. This all funnels down to two things: 1) proper instruction about the swing, and 2) practice. Practice, practice, and more practice is necessary to create better balance in your swing.

The second factor has to do with a term that many of you have probably heard before. That term is "muscle memory." Realize that within your body the skeleton is controlled by your muscles, muscles are controlled by nerves, and the nerves are told what to do by your brain. The messages sent to your muscles through your nerves by the brain create movement (i.e. muscles working to make the body move). These movements can either be efficient or inefficient. Inefficient movements by the muscular system tend to be "sloppy" and "unrefined." Efficient movements are just the opposite. Efficient movements by your muscular system are refined and technical. Improvement in balance is a result of the latter (i.e. efficient muscular movement). Efficient muscular movement is developed through training the muscles and nerves of your body to become more efficient. This is not done through typical exercises like bench press or leg press, but through stabilization and balance exercises.

As golfers we have our priorities. Let's get some balance in our golf swing by training our bodies, getting proper instruction, and certainly a lot of practice. Once we've got balance there, then we'll start talking about balancing our checkbook or helping Washington balance the federal budget.

Golf Swing Aids Aren't Effective If...

by Mike Pedersen, CPT
Golf swing aids are rampant! Every golfer has dozens of them gathering dust in their garages or closets. How many wives have threatened a "clearing out" of these contraptions? If you are feeling me...keep reading.
Have you purchased golf swing aids only to use them once or twice and not see improvement? Isn't this an everyday occurrence for golfers? I see and hear this all the time, and yet golfers will continue to spend hundreds of dollars by the 'latest/greatest' gimmick.

I don't know if they (golfers) think they will find the "one" training aid that will change their game forever; or they are just trying to take the easy way out?

Either way, the main reason most golf swing aids don't help is because you are not working on what's causing your swing faults. You! Your machine (body) dictates your outcome! There's no way around it!

What your body is capable of in that moment is the result you'll get.

How many times have you wished you could make a bigger backswing but can't? How often do you walk off the course with a sore back? How many times did you have a good front nine only to blow up on the back nine and shoot your normal score?

The above results were because of the "physical" issues within your body. Until you realize this and take a different approach to your golf improvement program, you'll be a frustrated golfer for a long time.

In my opinion, there are a couple of golf swing aids that are effective when you incorporate them with your new golf training program. One is the medicus. This is a fantastic golf swing aid that gives you instant feedback. Swing it too fast or out of plane and the shaft breaks at the hinge.

Another golf swing aid I like is the weighted golf club. I swing mine everyday and boy does it loosen me up and strengthen my golf swing muscles.

Other than the above golf swing aids, there are dozens and dozens of ones that are a total waste of money. Save your money and work on you! The sooner you do, the sooner you'll stop buying the latest, greatest golf swing aids.

How Your Golf Driver Swing Can Have More Power

by Mike Pedersen, CPT
A golf driver swing that is lacking in power has a couple of issues that need to be addressed. A golf driver swing is slightly different than your other clubs...but needs to have the same sequence of motion and body position at impact to produce more power and distance of the tee.
Most golfers swing outside their physical capabilities resulting in lost yardage and accuracy.

Has this ever happened to you?

You step up on a long par 4 or a par 5 and tell yourself you're going to get their in two. What did you do differently on the tee to achieve it? Did you swing harder? If so, what was your result?
The first issue to cover with your golf driver swing is your range of motion, especially on your backswing. Can you make a 90 degree shoulder turn with minimal tension? Most older golfers don't even come close.

The optimal position is a 90 degree shoulder turn, with approximately 45 degrees of hip turn. This requires a high level of core strength and flexibility. Shoulder flexibility comes into play just a bit also.

If you can't get to this position, it doesn't matter how hard you swing...you're still not going to maximize your power and distance with your driver. Trying to get to that position when you body cannot physically get there will only cause muscle tension, which slows clubhead speed.

Secondly, getting behind the ball and staying behind the ball at impact is critically to maximizing power and distance. This cannot be achieved with an "out-of-shape" body. It's a physically impossibility.

Even for a fit golfer, this is sometimes hard to accomplish on a consistent basis.

On the downswing, it is critical the first move is with the lower body rotating (not sliding). This rotation of the lower body, while the upper body stays back (for only a split second) takes a ton of core strength.

A weaker golfer would not be able to achieve this. He/she would come over the top early with the upper body, merely because they don't have core strength to initiate the downswing with the lower body.

So how do you achieve a golf driver swing with maximum power?

Start working on your core strength and flexibility from a rotational standpoint, with a golf weight training and golf stretching routine. Every exercise and stretch you do should incorporate rotational movements. The primary movement in the golf swing is rotational, so why wouldn't you focus on that in your golf training program?

This is the quickest way to longer drives!

Hitting more balls with the same body and the same swing won't get you there!
You've got to address the physical component to achieve the mechanical efficiency with your driver.

As soon as you do, you'll be blowing by the other players in your foursome!

This IS the approach you should take with your golf driver swing.

The Proper Golf Swing - Easy Steps Often Overlooked

by Joseph Tierney
If only we all had the perfect golf swing, wouldn't that be nice? Too bad we don't - but hey, that is why I am here right? I have all kinds of great tips that you can use to make your golf swing better than you ever dreamed possible. You would be surprised to learn how many people don't really know what the proper golf swing is all about. Keep reading and test your knowledge!

First comes the grip, even if you have been playing for years there is a chance that you are not holding the golf club in the best fashion. People can pull off swings with things all out of whack but if you want to be good, I mean really good, you have to learn what makes a grip a good grip.

So, grab your club and hold it like you would if you were going to take a swing at the golf ball. How are your hands situated? Neither hand should be facing right down, this is vital to a good swing. Many people have their hands going in all directions and this leads to a very awkward swing indeed. You should have your hands to the side, similar to the way they would be facing if you were to be shaking someone hand. Your thumbs should be going in the same direction towards the head of the golf club with the only real spot of overlap there the backhands thumb is under the other hand a bit. Does that make sense? Having this correct grip will change the way that you play golf, just give it a try, it will take you far in learning the proper golf swing.

Another thing to remember is that the golf swing does not have to be one continuous motion. Most of the best golfers have a small pause at the top of their backswing. By taking that little break just before you begin your downswing you will be able to assure that your downswing is all that it can be. If you rush it and you go too fast then you are going to run into trouble and lose all control on the way down. This will lead to wild swings that get you nowhere in your game.

Then there are the body factors, the actual muscles and things of that nature. What many people do not realize is that there are a lot of muscles that go into playing golf, in fact if you are not careful you could even throw out your back. It may be tempting to use the wrists a lot when you swing that club but you need to understand that a good golf swing does not come from the writ, it comes from the legs and the trunk of your body. When you throw your whole body into the proper golf swing you are going to connect with the ball every time and you are going to find that your stroke is more powerful and more accurate than if you tried to simply strong arm the club.

The proper golf swing is made up of many little elements that all go together to make one perfect whole. By focusing on each of them you will be able to put them together like a fantastic puzzle t the end. This will leave you with a golf swing to die for and you will be the envy of everyone at the club, I guarantee it.

Golf Fitness Exercises for the Woman Golfer

by Sean Cochran
It is well known in professional golf how integral golf fitness exercises are for success at the highest level of golf. Men on the PGA Tour and women on the LPGA Tour understand the benefits of golf fitness exercises in achieving success. Outside the circles of professional golf many questions exist about golf fitness exercises. Questions such as; what are the best exercises to improve golf fitness levels, are flexibility exercises and stretches better than other forms of golf fitness exercises, and what are the benefits of golf fitness exercises for the woman golfer?

These and many questions surround the topic of golf fitness. This article is to provide some answers for you on the topic of golf fitness exercises for woman. It has been well documented in magazines and television how LPGA women such as Annika Sorenstam utilize golf fitness programs to benefit their play on the golf course. Is there a difference between the LPGA player and the amateur woman golfer in relation to golf fitness training? The answer is no. Yes, the women on the LPGA Tour are the best women golfers in the world, but the physiology of the LPGA player and amateur are the same. The skeletal, muscular, and neural systems are the same. The professional golfer has the same number of muscles in their bodies as the amateur. The woman's professional golfer has the same skeletal structure as the female amateur, and nervous system as well. Granted the LPGA player has more refined and efficient swing mechanics, but the body is the same.

As a result of the body being the same, the principles and structure of a golf fitness program for any woman is similar. Before discussing the specifics of a golf fitness program for women it is necessary to understand a few important principles. The first principle to understand about a golf fitness program is sports specific. Sports specific is a term describing the type of training utilized in a golf fitness program. Sport specific training simply states the program utilized by the woman athlete is geared towards improving them in their chosen sport.

A second principle closely related to sports specific training is cross specificity training. Cross specificity training is the utilization of exercises to develop the woman golfer in the positions, movements, and actions incorporated in the golf swing. The goal of cross specificity training is a transfer of training effect to the field of competition. Simply stated, a transfer of training effect is the ability of exercises utilized to train the female golfer having a direct benefit on their performance during a round of golf.

For example, golf fitness flexibility exercises will attempt to improve the flexibility within the woman golfer. As the woman golfer improves her flexibility parameters in relation to the golf swing. She may be able to create a bigger shoulder turn, which may increase the distance of her drives. This benefit is an example of a transfer of training effect onto the golf course. In summary, the three principles that assist in the development of a golf fitness program for women are; sports specific, cross specificity training, and transfer of training effect. Many additional principles exist that are used as guidelines in the development of a golf fitness program, but these are three essential ones.

Outside of the guidelines governing the development of a golf fitness program for woman. Specific physical components within the body are needed within the body to execute the golf swing correctly. Remember, it is the body performing the biomechanics of the golf swing. In order for the golf swing to be executed correctly and efficiently certain levels of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power are required. These are the actual physical components within the woman golfer a golf specific fitness program looks to develop and enhance in relation to the golf swing.

The golf swing requires the body to move through a long range of motion for an efficient movement to occur. Much of this is contingent upon the ability of the core to coil and uncoil during the swing. In order for these two biomechanical actions to occur efficiently, the development of proper flexibility in the core is necessary.

We utilize flexibility exercises that are cross-specific to the movements in the golf swing to develop flexibility. The majority of these flexibility exercises are rotational and dynamic.
The golf swing is a dynamic movement, indicating that the body is in constant motion. It is crucial to develop a range of motion for the swing in a dynamic rather than a static (not moving) method. The goal of these exercises is to create a range of motion in the core for the golf swing. Flexibility is the first physical component requiring development within the woman golfer.
One needs to maintain, dynamically, a stable body throughout the entire swing. We have all hit balls at the range and know what happens when we do not stay balanced during the swing. Improving the balance and stabilization capabilities of the core translates into a better golf swing. Better Balance equals a Better Swing. Even subtle movements are consistency killers; thus we need to develop and maintain balance for a consistent swing.

Balance is connected to the efficiency of the nervous system and strength of the muscular system working together. The development of greater balance in the core and swing is the result of two types of specific exercise. The first challenges the nervous system creating greater efficiency. The second are exercises that create increased strength in the core. The combination of these two types of exercises permit for the body to maintain posture, promote efficient weight transfer, and create power in the swing. The result is a more consistent, accurate, and powerful swing. This is the second component included with a golf fitness program for women

Remember that the golf swing is a repetitive movement. The mechanics of the swing repeat with each stroke. This process can be repeated hundreds of times in a round of golf. Ever go to the range and hit two buckets of balls? At some point the body starts to tire, and shots scatter.
Proper endurance training enables us to repeat a sound swing. We produce this through a series of exercises developing endurance in the entire body. This nets us a consistent swing through eighteen holes. Increasing endurance leads to lower scores. This is the third physical component of the golf fitness program for women.

Club head speed is a function of power. The more power generated by the body, the greater speed at which a club head impacts the ball. More power to the ball equals longer drives. Developing higher levels of power within the muscular system of the body is achieved through the implementation of power exercises. These types of exercise assist in creating higher power outputs of the muscles involved in the golf swing. Power training is the final component found in a golf fitness program for women.

In summary a golf fitness program for the LPGA or amateur woman golfer is relatively the same. Golf fitness exercises for the woman golfer are sports specific. The exercises contained within the golf fitness program are cross-specific to the movements, positions, and requirements of the golf swing. The exercises within a woman's golf fitness program induce a transfer of training effect onto the golf course. The golf swing requires certain levels of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power to execute correctly. A golf fitness program for women will look to enhance these physical components of the body. The end result is an improved golf swing equating to lower scores and more enjoyment on the golf course.

Save The Body Sway For The Dance Floor, Not In Your Golf Swing

by Sean Cochran
Body motion in the swing is necessary, but too much of a good thing can wreak all kinds of havoc with your golf swing.

I received a question over the weekend from a BioForce Golf subscriber about "body motion" in the swing.

The question from our subscriber asked how not to fall into the trap of too much movement backwards during the golf swing.

What we are really talking about is weight transfer during the golf swing.

Too much weight transfer onto the back foot during the take-away and backswing causes difficulty in getting back to your front foot on the downswing.

This creates some difficulties in your timing during the golf swing.

Oftentimes, this type of swing fault is termed "body sway."

So how do we fix this golf swing fault?

Let's take a brief look at golf swing mechanics.

Optimal golf swing mechanics are both a rotational (rotating around a fixed spine angle) and linear (weight transfer backwards and forwards) movement.

It is the sequencing (proper order) and combination of these two biomechanical movements that develop the great foundation of your golf swing.

Amateurs often have difficulty performing these two biomechanical movements simultaneously and in the correct sequence.

Discussing "Body Sway" in Relation to Linear Weight Transfer of the Golf Swing

Amateurs often shift their weight too far onto their back foot. Once this occurs, they are never able to get their weight forward, causing them to "spin out" and leave the clubface open at impact.

A conversation I had with top teaching pro Rick Smith on body sway enlightened me on one of his teaching points: the weight transfer in the backswing cannot go past the inside arch of the back foot.

In order to limit your weight transfer in the swing to this position, you must "feel" it in your swing. You must be able to feel your weight on the inside of the back foot and not allow it to move any farther back.

If your weight transfer exceeds this position, your timing will be off, your golf swing mechanics will be flawed, and compensation of the downswing will occur.

Now knowing what we need to know about golf swing mechanics and the problems resulting from "body sway," how do we go about fixing it?

The golf swing is one of the most intricate athletic movements performed in sports today.
It requires precision in every biomechanical movement involved in the swing, the correction sequencing of each movement, and the correct timing.

As a whole, the golf swing is a very difficult movement to perform.

Attempting to "fix" a swing fault when swinging the golf club at full tilt is almost impossible.

So what are you to do?

Simply, it is much easier to break down the golf swing into parts.

Working on pieces of the golf swing and then re-building the swing is the way to go. This is a much easier task to achieve.

Once you have broken down the golf swing into pieces, then you can focus upon the area of the golf swing that is giving you difficulty.

Fixing the area of the golf swing that is giving you problems can be addressed by implementing swing drills.

Swing drills introduce and re-enforce the proper swing mechanics into your body and allow you to eventually cure your swing fault.

This will eventually return you to a position where you can "feel" every position in the golf swing.

So, if you are struggling from "body sway" in the golf swing, break down the swing into parts and address the area of the golf swing that needs help through swing drills.

Perfecting Your Golf Swing

by M.R. Pritchett
When I get a golf club in my hand, I get that feeling of wanting to knock the cover off the ball. It feels good to put all of my strength into hitting the ball. Just hitting the ball as hard as I can does not mean that I play good golf though.

If you just need to relieve a little stress, then swinging with all your strength may accomplish your goals. However, if you want to play golf well, then you are going to have to hold back on the power a little.

One of the most frequent mistakes is to swing the golf club too hard. A hard swing shows that you have power, but accuracy is the name of the game in golf.

You need to relax when you are swinging. This will help you swing easily and will help to reduce your power. If you put your feet closer together, then you can further reduce the strength of your swing. Tensing up will also cause you to use too much effort.

Your center of gravity is also very important. Keep your center of gravity the same and your head will stay still. If you keep both of your feet in the same position throughout your swing, then your center of gravity will be stable.

If you jerk your body then your head will move and you will not be able to focus on the ball. This can also change your center of gravity. It is imperative that you keep your feet planted so that all your weight will be concentrated in your feet when you make contact with the ball.

Expending very little effort should be your goal. If you hit the ball correctly, then it will feel smooth and easy.

Don't tense up when you are about to make contact with the ball. If you tense up, your balance will be thrown off. You want the club head to travel in a straight line to make contact with the ball.

To help correct slicing, see how centered you can hit the ball with your club and how low you can send the ball. If you send the ball too high, it gets into the wind and can go left or right on rough ground.

You want to only use the amount of power that you are able to control. The goal of the game is not power, but accuracy. You want to be able to control every facet of your swing so that you hit the ball cleanly and it goes where you want it to go.

The distance will come from your clean and correct swing, not how much power that you put into it.

You want to try to gradually increase your speed during your swing until you connect with the ball solidly. If you do not have a smooth swing, then you are pulling your hands somewhere during the swing. Keep your head as still as you would if you had a glass of water balanced on top of it. This will help to improve your swing and help you to swing more smoothly and fluidly.

Swing at a decent enough speed to keep yourself from becoming tense and stiff. Don't swing too slowly or so hard that you feel the effort of the swing. Stay relaxed.

Try to keep the idea of power out of your head. Keeping your power under control so that you can be more accurate is what counts!

Understanding The Physics Of The Golf Swing

by Mike Pedersen
Some golf players have been able to increase their game tremendously by studying the physics of their golf swing by capturing and analyzing the biomechanics of their golf swing.Biomechanics or Motion Capture Technology (MOCAP) is the mechanical analysis of body motion.
Studying and understanding the physics of golf swing by analyzing the biomechanics of your swing can help improve your golf game. This is usually achieved with the help of high speed video technology.
The fact is that it is not always very easy to identify specific problems for correction in the golf swing. However if the physics of the golf swing is clearly captured and studied, it makes everything a lot easier and the correct improvements can be quickly carried out.Actually one of the most effective correctional techniques these days is the use of special conditioning and golf-specific endurance exercises.
The exercise work miracles in strengthening the muscles being used in specific stages of the golf swing, making correction extremely simple after a careful study of the physics of the golf swing. After all it is widely accepted that the correct physics of the golf swing is a complex, awkward movement that is far from being natural for the body and which one can only get right through constant practice and exercise and conditioning specific to golf and designed to perfect the physics of your golf swing. The proper or perfect golf swing is really a study in physics.
Starting from the motion to the impact and flight of the ball through the air. Focusing on the physics of your golf swing is bound to provide plenty of eye-openers on how you can improve your game.

Fix Your Golf Slice With Basic Corrections

by Dave Powell

Fix Your Golf Slice With Basic Corrections

A golf slice can often be cured by some simple, basic corrections in set-up.
For instance, while a golfer can occasionally compensate for a poor swing, you cant play well with a poor grip. It is important, if you want to fix your slice permanently, that you take the time to check your grip using this simple drill:

Take a blade of grass and trap it between the fleshy pad on the underside of your right thumb and the top of your left thumb. Now, complete your grip and swing the club to the top of the backswing. If the blade of grass has remained in position then your grip is secure and firm, but if the grass has fallen out, this is a sign that your hands are separating, which causes the club to move about at the top of the backswing.

Having the clubface in the correct position at the top of your backswing is fundamental to correcting a golf slice. Unfortunately, thats not an easy position to check when the club is out of sight and behind you. The way to check the clubface position is to look up and check the direction in which the knuckles on your left hand are pointing.

If they are well to the right, the clubface will be closed to the target line, which in the downswing normally produces a right-to-left hook flight. If your knuckles point to right, the clubface will be open and the result will be a sliced golf shot. If the knuckles point straight up to the sky the clubface is square to the target line.

In fact, grip faults can often be the main reason for slicing in golf, and the problem with grip faults is that they can get into your game without you really being aware of them. To prevent this slow decline in technique perform the following check:

Grip the club and make sure that you can see around two and a half knuckles on your left hand. Then take a pen and draw a small dot on your golf glove on the last knuckle showing. To ensure your grip is correct on every shot, all you have to do is to look down at your glove after taking up your grip. If you cant see the dot then your grip has probably become too weak. Likewise if you can see a knuckle beyond the mark, then your grip is probably becoming too strong.

Many players have a golf slice by allowing their left side to slide too far to the left in the downswing, making it difficult to square up the clubface correctly at impact. This can be a difficult habit to correct but there is a mental drill that could help you keep those hips from sliding.

When you address the golf ball, imagine you are next to an open door with your left side positioned against the wall. When you swing the club back down to the ball, imagine the wall stopping your legs from sliding to the left, while your arms and hands remain free to swing the clubhead on through the open door. This will prevent your legs from sliding to the left. It will also encourage you to adopt the correct active hand action in your downswing.

My name is David Nevogt and my system, "The Simple Golf Swing" has helped 7,987 golfers during the past 2 years. As you will read, historically this system has a success rate of 95%, and bogey golfers are able to lower their handicaps by AT LEAST 7 strokes within the first couple of rounds. Many golfers are seeing even greater improvements! This method is delivering an AVERAGE IMPROVEMENT of 12 STROKES.

Naturally, that means that if you shoot over 90, you will be able to reduce your handicap by much more than 7 strokes.

I tend to set my goals high, so the goal of my system is for each of my clients to break 80. It has been proven many times that with this system anyone can do it. Regardless of physical ability.

Here's a question for you to think about. What do you feel are the 3 biggest factors that prevent bogey golfers from reaching their true scoring potential? This is the question that I asked over 200 golfers after hearing the following information.

There are roughly 27 million golfers in the world. Their average gross score: 107 shots. Eighty percent of the golfers do not achieve a handicap of less than 18. (Source: Revista golf international. November 2000)

Here is a brief summary of what the people who responded told me:

Inconsistency --- 187 Golfers --- 94% Slice --- 142 Golfers --- 71% Distance --- 124 Golfers --- 62% Needless to say, many golfers were experiencing the same problems. Therefore, I devoted myself to developing "The Simple Golf Swing" system that would focus on solving these 3 problems, and would teach bogey golfers a system to overcome them.

It was developed specifically for the bogey or bogey+ golfer with CONSISTENCY as the end result. How many shots per round do you think you could save if you made solid impact, hit the ball straight, and hit it long every time? This system will give you the information and methods that will allow you to master these three problem areas, so you can move on to concentrate on your short game.

And then we'll move on to teach you how to stick those tough chip shots close to the pin. You can become that scorer you've always wanted to be. FOR A VERY LIMITED TIME, my newest book "The Simple Chip" will be included with this package. I guaranteed 7 strokes before I added it to the package, so imagine the strokes you will save with it included. I am in the process of starting a separate website for "The Simple Chip". Once that site is done, I will no longer be able to offer both of these systems together.

This system will reduce your handicap by 7 or more strokes. Historically, "The Simple Golf Swing" system has a 95% success rate. Why is the success rate so high? Because everything is covered. Drives, Irons, and the short game. It's all included. You'll shave at least 7 strokes with "The Simple Swing" alone. The accurate and consistent chipping will just be an added bonus.

How To Improve Golf Swing

by Ben Smith
Playing golf can be a lot of fun and very challenging. Golf is a very technical sport. There's the right way of doing it, and the wrong way. Many people often wonder how to improve their golf swing. Fortunately, there's some online golf learning systems to help any golfer improve their game. Here's where the self proclaimed Golf Swing Guru comes in. He boldly states, " I Guarantee You'll lengthen your drive and cut your handicap by 7-12 strokes in just 2 weeks." The gulf swing guru claims he can teach you how to do this in his ebook "Simple Golf Swing."

Here's some of the key benefits he lists in his program:

Your slice will be corrected: Golf Digest has done many studies to prove that a straight ball goes much further than a slice or a hook. Many professionals, including Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, and Fred Couples have found tremendous success by hitting a controlled fade. Many more prefer to hit the draw. With consistency in mind, "The Simple Golf Swing" system was developed to teach the bogey golfer how to hit the ball STRAIGHT. For you this means added distance and confidence on the tee, and increased accuracy on the approach.

You will get tested methods that are proven to work. The System has a 95% success rate.

You will SAVE TIME by learning this Step-By-Step system. The complete swing is laid out for you in a simple manner. "The Simple Golf Swing" tells you exactly what to focus on during every step. No need to figure it out by yourself. No wondering about what to do next. I will provide the information AND teach you for less that one round of golf.

You will SAVE MONEY. Offline lessons are around $85 per hour, and many instructors charge more. This complete system gives you much more information than I could provide in one lesson for half the price.

This system will SAVE YOU THE FRUSTRATION of playing bad golf. You are GUARANTEED to be playing the best golf of your life in less than one month.

You will get more enjoyment out of golf because you will consistently be making solid impact with the ball. Your shots will fly longer and straighter.

You will learn to strategically play the game. Left side of the fairway, versus the right side. You'll be able to set up your approach shot accordingly.

You're new found confidence will allow your whole game to improve. You will want honors off the tee, because you'll KNOW that you are going to hit the longest ball.

COMPETITION WILL INCREASE. It is virtually impossible to shoot in the low 80's and not play to WIN.

You will get a great amount of satisfaction by sharing your knowledge with friends, family, and co-workers. This is the main reason I started to teach "The Simple Golf Swing". So many golfers struggle, when they don't need to. I thrive on watching my students get better and better. They will come to YOU for advice.

Improve Your Golf Swing

by Interne1
Want to Improve your Golf Swing? There are so many ways to do this, but the best way is to read about how to do it first. Yes, you can go out and hire a golf pro to teach you how to swing a club and pay hundreds of dollars for the lesson. Or, you can set some goals for yourself and learn how to improve your golf swing on your own. All it takes is practice. Once you know the correct way to swing a club you just need to practice what you learn. The best book I have read on how to improve your golf swing is called the "Simple Golf Swing".

If you are serious about improving your golf swing then you have probably been searching for a way to do it for some time. The thing that bothers me about golf pros is that charge hundreds of dollars for lessons when they know the same thing they teach is in a book for much less. The "Simple Golf Swing" is one of these books that will teach you how to dramtically improve your golf swing.

There is much more to a golf swing than just learning how to hit the ball. One main factor is how your spine is positioned. The "Simple Golf Swing" will teach you how to use your body to hit the ball longer and straighter. You will also learn how to position your hands correctly, this is very important when trying to improve your golf swing. The challenge that the "Simple Golf Swing" offers it that you will cut 7 strokes off your game around the second week of practicing the new mechanics taught in the guide.

The "Simple Golf Swing" will give you a step-by-step guide with detailed photos on how to improve your golf swing. You will learn how to properly grip the club for consistency. You will learn how align the face of your club to eliminate a hook or slice that you may have previously had. The best part about this system is that you will learn consistency. If you keep your swing consistent you will soon see that you will always hit the ball straight. It is a great boost of confidence to know that you will get to the tee box and drive the ball right down the center of the fairway.

Obviously I reccommend the "Simple Golf Swing" to anyone who wants to improve their golf swing. If you don't think that this guide will help then think about this next time you play 18 holes. Count how many strokes you had that sliced or hooked. Count how many times you missed the green to the right or left by a few feet and had to chip on. Count how many times you just mis hit the ball. If this number is greater than 10, you will certainly benefit from the "Simple Golf Swing" system.

How "The Simple Golf Swing" Will Lower Your Score

by David Nevogt
How "The Simple Golf Swing" Will Lower Your Score

The best thing about "The Simple Golf Swing" is that it is a system. Most golfers swing at the ball, but never really THINK about what they did wrong, or more importantly, what they did right.

Thinking about the possible corrections usually will not work because there's always a little wrist cock, or a certain turning angle that could have influenced the good or bad result.

What a system does for your game is it allows you to proactively analyze each shot after you hit it and realize the result, good or bad.

For example, I hit the ball and it slices. Now most golfers are going to hit the ball again and slice it again. Maybe they hit a good ball every once in a while, but they'll never know what MADE them hit the good shot.

With this system you'll get 5 simple steps to go through for every swing you put on the ball. Now you'll start to see trends developing, and you can always tie those trends back to one of the 5 steps you are most likely forgetting about which is causing the negative trend.

So in my example, I hit a slice. Now because I have this system in place, I automatically know what I have to concentrate on for the next shot. I know that I did one of 2 things. I let my body get ahead of my hands, or I failed to start the downswing with my arms. If I top the ball, I automatically know that I failed to keep my leading shoulder down on the ball.

So the point is that having simple but effective controls in place will really help your game. You'll be really surprised how much you'll learn about your own game, and how easy it is to develop and maintain good habits once you understand how to recognize

The Simple Golf Swing Review

by Joseph Tierney
Let me start off by saying that I was extremely leary about buying something off of the internet to help improve my golf swing. And come on, "The Simple Golf Swing"? Everyone knows a perfect golf swing like Tiger Woods is anything but simple. After reading some of the testimonials and since the price of the book was so low (I spend more on golf balls) I decided to buy the book because it is 100% guaranteed - if it sucked I would just get a refund. One of the main reasons I decided to buy the book was because I don't have time to have a golf trainer or practice all the time. I surf pretty much any day there are waves in Florida, I go to college, and I have to keep my websites updated daily.

So I decided to buy the book and I spent a few hours reading it from front to back over and over. I decided I would just print the book out and bring it with me to the golf course in the morning so I didn't forget anything. After a short surf session with my friends, we drove across the street to our local golf course in Melbourne Beach, FL.

Let me just put it this way, my friends were amazed at my golf swings and were convinced that I had a personal golf trainer. The first day that I had tried out the tips that I got from the Simple Golf Swing I improved my handicap from a 17 to a 13. I improved my accuracy and distance hitting the golf ball as well. This was just my first time using the Simple Golf Swing tips and they were definetly helping my golf swing.

Two days later I went back to the course and had even better results. It was a rainy day, so I wanted to test out some more tips that were in the Simple Golf Swing book. My first tee I had a great hit even with the wetness of the ball and club. I have never had a ball fly this straight and high in the rain before.

Every hole after the first was the same. I would've never dreamed of making such solid contact thru 18 holes. The ultimate test came on the 5th hole where I'm sitting at 200 yards out in the middle of the fairway on an uphill par 4. I grab my 3 iron which still looks new from lack of use and I nail it within 15 feet of the hole. I wound up shooting 80 and the only reason that I was that high, was club selection between my sand and pitching wedge. I was getting so much action on my sand wedge that 3 times I hit the front of the green and it sucked right back off the green. That's the first time that has ever happened to me. To top things off my playing partner, seeing me hit so well, asked me what I'd changed. I gave him a brief lesson and within two holes he's hitting them a far and as straight as I've ever seen him.

I honestly recommend The Simple Golf Swing even if you already think you are Tiger Woods. A lot of people have had success with The Simple Golf Swing and you can read more testimonials on their website.

End Golf Swing Confusion Forever!

by Dori O'Rourke

End Golf Swing Confusion Forever!

We're in the information age, and when it comes to the golf swing, this often means information overload!

As new golfers, we start out believing that there is one right way to swing, only to find out that there are just about as many swing methods as there are instructors. It seems that the more we learn about the golf swing, the more our minds are filled with confusing, contradictory information.

Until now, if two respected golf professionals showed you two completely different ways to swing and both told you that their way was the right way, you would have been forced to make your best guess.

Maybe you would have chosen the information from the pro who was most well known, or the one you could play the best, or the one you listened to most recently. Regardless, with no solid way to choose one way over the other, you would be forced to go from one method to the next indefinitely.

The good news is there is now a proven way to determine which swing method is best for you. It's simple. It's easy. And, it works every time.

The secret is to start with impact!

While there are hundreds, or maybe even thousands of different swing methods, there is only one way the club needs to be at impact to hit a desired shot. If your club is in that position, you'll get the results you want. If it's not, you won't. It's that simple.

Impact is often called the moment of truth because it's the most important aspect of your golf swing. If you want to find your best swing, and end swing confusion forever, the secret is to relate every swing change to impact.

For example, if you want to know whether one set-up is better than another, figure out which one allows you to swing your club into the ideal position at impact in the easiest, most comfortable, most powerful way. If you want to know whether a flatter or a more upright backswing is best, notice which way makes it easiest for you to achieve the ideal impact position.

While there are numerous swing methods, there is only one way to swing that is the, easiest, most comfortable, and most powerful way for YOU! Trust that the swing that feels best is the right way to swing and you'll end swing confusion forever!
